Tutorial's Purpose

Before we start, the purpose of this tutorial is to:

  • Help and guide new editors on contributing at weapon pages.
  • Know the parts of the pages.
  • Give ideas on non-ranked players to make a page without the need of ranked players; which is good from doing it.
  • Be aware on errors.

All Wiki Rules must be followed. All violators will be apprehended.

Making New Page

Instructions

If you are one of the lucky people who get to know about a weapon or an attachment who was released so recently that no one else on PFW knows about it, here's your chance to make your mark.

  1. Notify an admin by leaving a note about, say, FAMAS on his message wall. It should say something like:
Hi, a new Weapon was released recently. Please see [[FAMAS]].

make sure your spelling is correct (very important) and publish your post.

  1. If the words "FAMAS" turns red after your post, then click on it. This will bring you straight to the correct page.
  2. Copy the following code, paste it in the Editing area, and you're done.

It's that simple.

And then, write contents about the new page. Don't leave the page bland.

If there are errors, don't worry about it. The following code is correct and has been tested several times. An Admin will come along shortly and fix the cause for the error.

Making Weapon User Guides

Making weapon guides/tips/tactics is accepted in the wiki. Please follow these instructions to avoid misinterpretation between an article page and your guide.

  • If the page is a: Weapon or Map Strategies, guides, how-to's, tips or something related as "helpers" are considered User Guides. User Guides are defined as opinionated/preference pages, made by a user.
  • Before everything, please add Template:UserGuide before the guide contents. If no template is added, the editor will get a mild warning posted including the link of this section. The purpose is to add proof to the page maker and categorized as Guides.
  • Make the page titling relevant and specific from the content. Please refrain naming the page from profanity or vague. (For example, Don't name "How to win on the crane map." Instead, do "How to capture the crane.")
  • Never promote your weapon guide at the weapon article.
  • Designing the page is a creative/user-friendly way for making user guides. Adding medias can aid the reader especially when making complex, complicated content. But remember, we're still following our Wiki Rules here.
  • Weapon Guide is not a critique page for weapons. Do not discourage or criticize a certain weapon/attachment/map.
  • Be detailed/comprehensive on making a user guide. To make sure the readers understand the guide.

Editing Content

In Phantom Forces Wiki, we make our contents as reader-friendly as possible. So, we make a set of principles on effective editing. We tolerate poor editing but take these VERY VERY SERIOUSLY. When tracked a poor editor, a mild warning is posted including the link of this section.

Editing Principles

If you were linked at this page, please follow these principles to edit correctly and accurately.

  1. Phantom Forces Wiki is like an editable book. People can change its contents and information at their will. People can see your edits. Please think first before editing.
  2. Know the terms. Please be familiar about the Standard terms for Phantom Forces Wiki. If you're not sure or not, please visit the link.
  3. Grammar is the medium of editing. It indicates your intelligence, and so the wiki. Please analyze the grammar before publishing.
  4. Be relevant. The most common mistake is placing opinionated tips and tactics. Never post any tips and tactics relating to edited page. Make a blog instead.
  5. Experience is the key. Before editing, you must know the page you editing on. Don't post your first impressions. Once you familiarize the topic, type everything you know about the page.
  6. Criticism. NEVER POST YOUR DISLIKES ON THE PAGE. Place in comments or Reddit instead.
  7. Avoid including the reader at the edits. Adding "you" makes the editing informal and making the edit more like a "user guide".
